The Argumentative Script

The reading exemplifies the need for true argumentative script amongst many ideas and beliefs. The idea of an argumentative hand tends to be a hand where pleasure is formed, is highly promoted throughout our text. (Ramage, 2010) Throughout an argument, oral or written, many sides are created in a contest equal to those on a football field.
With many arguments to look back on, the person whom started is convinced that he/she shall win the argument. Rather, the view should lean to more of a persuasive and logical approach to the problem or subject. When a conversation becomes merely a verbal contest, there is not educational portion being directed.
In the instance where a mother and her child is having a conversation of lets just say a curfew. The child will argue that they should be able to stay out longer and the parent argues that they must be home at a certain time. Rather than arguing over a topic like this, we should open up to reasoning within the argumentative nature. Rather than just yelling, let’s throw reason into the mix. Within common sense reasoning, we have bring the argumentative speech to something that truly makes sense a in which this time will become a learning experience rather than just a yelling match.

Comment to Myron

Myron,
Your interpretation of writing was portrayed as pure comical relief. The eventful situation of pulling teeth was ironically exactly how I feel about writing thoughts onto paper. The editing and revision being paralleled to the need to wash your mouth out after your visit to the doctor was hilarious.
The thoughts compelling this strange euphoria are precisely how I feel about writing as well. The need to complete a paper comes with so many strange feelings and thoughts it is miraculous. The splendor of finishing a paper is exactly like finishing your time with the dentist and the numbness disappeared.
Overall, your blog was pure comedy and an enjoyment to read. Again, I have to feel precisely the same way about writing my words down onto paper. Overall, I am a much better talked than a typist.

The Truth Behind Writing

Writing is like mowing the grass, or perhaps doing dishes. Even though there is a great hatred towards the act, it still needs to be completed. This is especially true while in any type of educational service where you must respond with personal experiences and ideas.
The first hurtle in getting my words onto paper is merely realizing when I need to quit procrastinating. Then next step is to sit down so I may type of my words onto the paper in order to submit these pages for hopefully good grades.  When I decide that it is finally that time, I tend to lay on my couch with the laptop in my lap listening to soft music. I guess this is the only to get in my writing utopia. This is the only spot in the house where my writing takes place. Once the mood is set, I think about the topic that needs to be written about. Then my eyes close. Unfortunately, this closer is not to fall asleep but to avoid myself from stopping every two words to correct or change. I merely start my blindly typing anything that comes into my head. I keep going until I have exhausted my mind from the thoughts that have helped my thus far. At this time is when I open my eyes and see red lines drug across the screen. I take a few minutes to correct all the errors is my typing that I have made and take a break from my work. After a few minutes I re-read over my work, make the necessary corrections, and turn in my paper for the grade. I guess writing actually comes relatively easy to me.

Most people my age, 24, seem to be addicted to some social based website such as Facebook or Twitter. I have been luck so far not to fall in this social media trap. However, due to my job, I tend to write emails more than anything. As a recruiter for the United States Army, I have a great expectation of involving the local population in many events where the US Army is a sponsor. In order to have these people involved in our events we much contact everyone. This is where the internet/email come in mighty handy.
As a student through the online classes, my writing habits have evolved over the course of the past few years. Unfortunately for me, my habits throughout High School were horrible towards anything school related. Now as an adult, I have matured a ton. My writing habits have evolved immaculately through the teachers I have had as well as purely life experiences and lessons. With these lessons comes a greater vocabulary with helps when trying to pinpoint the correct word for the correct situation.
Even though I am writing at a University level, the word “writing” is still scary. When I read the syllabus of a brand new class and it involves many papers, my heart starts to sink. However with my newfound writing utopia also known as the couch, I keep my head high and persevere through the rough times.

Varieties of Blogging

Blogs are used throughout the world within fanciful the fanciful web pages like Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. One of the main beauties of these pages are the ability to truly feel the closeness to one of your idols. Many if not all famous idols, whether it’s anyone from a football player to a movie star, have one of these web pages devoted to them and for their fans.
Fans of any single person or group like to feel closeness to their idol. As for me, I love the musician known as Dallas Green who is the front man and foreman for the band City of Colour. He has a blog through Myspace that he catalogues all his thoughts and idea. If we as fans are paying a person millions of dollars due to his amazing musical creativeness, do we have a right to know more about this artist than just what he portrays through his lyrics and songs? I believe in general, it is up to the musical artist or idol to make up their own mind to whatever they want to do a blog or not. However, this lets fans know what to expect or to feel as through they are getting a personal view into this idols life. If you check out the blog from City and Colour on Myspace, he tells you that he is about the play SXSW, which is a huge music venue, played in Austin, Texas every year. He also let’s you know that if you are unable to make the actual concert of his, it will be filmed and showed live through a certain station. Without this personal inside wealth of knowledge, we as a fan may never know these types of things.
Blogs are an amazing way to get the inside exclusive peeks into your idols mind and news. They can still be used by nearly anybody, but personally I love following my idols thoughts and ideas. This may be the only way you can get to truly know the person who you love on television or stage.

Why There Are Pages and Why We Must Turn Them

There were many interesting facts laid down by our reading: Why There Are Pages and Why We Must Turn Them by Robert Bringhurst. Due to the technical age, the way of publishing text has come from sewn together hardbacks to pure electronic words. The author seems compelled to deny the usefulness of any type of computers or any electronic reading devices. Unfortunately, I believe that in this day in age, we as a nation and world are one of speed. Many things are improved not by the fact that it can give us a better product, but give us the same product faster.
Running with this notion, let’s look at something else, the mail. When mail first started, horse drew it from one town to another; this may have taken weeks if not months. Now through new inventive ways of mail travel, we are able to get the exact same product just in a faster time, i.e. Same-day air. This same principle is applied to the electronic reading devices of today. We are able to search for any title no matter the location that we may be at. As well to add, we are able to handle hundred’s if not thousands of books at once. This new inventive way of reading brings a whole library worth of sewn together hardback books directly into our palm at a moment’s notice.
Within the recent months there are many bookstores such as Boarders Books are going out of business just because of the ease that is known as their electronic competition. I feel frustrated by this, as I still buy paper book’s simply due to the fact that I personally like holding the text within my grips and being able to physically turn the pages and doggy-ear the corners to keep my place. However, throughout time, I feel as though the next generation will not have the option of reading without their portable electronic devices. Is this sad or disturbing? I guess it is sad, yet unfortunately that is called the progressive invention for tomorrow. As a United States Army Recruiter, I am able to go inside the High Schools within my area, and I notice that even true textbooks are diminishing from the shelves of our schools. Computers are invading the shelves due to the mere fact that space is limited and the price is to cheap to compete. This is a sad way of life, soon, electronic devices are all that we will have to rely on.

School's Authority Outside of School

This blogging topic almost makes me laugh. Why would a school’s authority on-campus follow the student home, off-campus, or online? This is ridiculous that schools throughout our nation are trying to expel or punish students for purely first amendment acts, i.e. Freedom of speech.
Let’s jump back just a second before I dive in too deep too fast. Do I believe that students should talk back, or mock teachers anytime of the day? For a quick and definite answer, absolutely not! I believe students, no matter what grade and age, should have respect for the teacher who are trying to teach. For the faculty at any given school should feel safe while they are within the confines of their own school, however what happens outside of school is and should be dealt with only by the correct authorities. These authorities outside of a school are absolutely not the schools.
Let’s use the example that is given to us by the text. A student randomly sees a teacher at a local restaurant. This meeting has nothing to do with school or any school function. Whatever the student does, as long as it is legally okay, should be legally fine to do. While flicking someone off may be very rude, I can not think of where this action is purely illegal. Should this student be punished? I believe so… by the PARENT at least. Once again, the school board will have no authority under this type of situation, and I think it is ridiculous that they jumped to expelling this student for this act.
My answer is very basic, the reality of the law is that the school board has no authority outside the boundaries of the school, or perhaps they would if the area where the incident was at a school function outside school limits, then the boundaries of the school will be changed. However, once again, if it is outside of school and not within a school function, then there is absolutely no authority within the school.

1st Blog, George Orwell

The explanations of the processes found throughout many of the political writings within George Orwell’s “Politics and the English Language” are exhilarating and thrilling. Pacification amongst nearly every count of political speeches are perfect examples of the wearisome and sensitive topic that most political speeches evolve around. A perfect example of this pacification is the fact that “Defenseless villages are bombarded from the air, the inhabitants driven out into the countryside, the cattle machine-gunned, the huts set on fire with incendiary bullets.” We may hear many examples like this thrown around in order to portray a more frightening example of what may happen amongst the topic, or more probable, this may be a perfect example of a bad writing.
When comparing the differences of modern English to the writings highlighted in “Politics and the English Language” they show a found difference in the way the topic is thrown around. The modern evolutional English writings are based solely on ease. Take a look at the ease of fast food restaurants compared to a few hundred years ago. The amount of ease upon our lives is tremendous. This is the same that goes in the effort of writing political, personal or plain horrible speeches and writings. As Orwell presented, as a modern English writer, we think of what we are trying to say, then think of the word that best describes this. Upon doing so, we think of an better word that will push up from roughly 5th grade writing into the collegiate levels that we are expected to be. Upon final conclusion, sometimes, the 5th grade word may have been exactly what we are trying to say. Unfortunately we replaced the true meaning that we were trying to per sway into a whole new context.
The Evolution from great writings into the phenomenon of bad writings is mostly a style that will never change nor be corrected. From the ease and complacency of writing being more abundant, and the political views staying the same, I foresee the changes in writing not taking on a great turn. I hope this changes, and hopefully the elimination of the Greek, Latin, and other influences will help.
